How do you eat with chop sticks when it comes to rice?

If it's short-grain rice focus on just bringing the tips of the chopsticks together and you'll find it picks up the rice without trouble. Also don't try and pick up too much at once.

If it's long-grain rice, put down your chopsticks and grab a spoon.

Okay the next time i eat rice i'll try that. How can you guys in Japan eat with chop sticks every day?

Tenchu 12-28-2009 10:37 AM

Don't use a spoon to eat rice. Use a fork.

Japanese and Chinese serve rice that has a bit of a stick to it when they give you chopsticks. It's not hard. Just make sure you're not trying with an unintended style of rice.

You just need to practice for a while. It's no more difficult than learning to use a knife, fork and spoon properly. As you can see from the example of Columbine, even older people have trouble with correct etiquette.

/Thailand

Like I said, it's extremely easy. I have difficulty understanding how you learned to use a computer if you've trouble learning how to put food in your mouth...

Oh, and BTW, the "unintended" style of rice I mentioned is not eaten with a spoon by the Chinese/Japanese as some bogans might imply. It's used for desert, mostly, in which case it becomes bound and sticky again.

Other Asian countries prefer the long grain rice for main courses, however. Such as Thailand, who do not like Japanese style rice. These countries traditionally eat with their hands, not spoons (which is where you might like to use a fork before lowering yourself).

I know how to eat with a fork, spoon, & knife. I'm just not that good with chop sticks.

Tenchu 12-28-2009 10:51 AM

Then all you need is correct understanding of the foods you're eating and practice with the correct tools for those foods. You'll get it.

Sakamae 12-28-2009 10:54 AM

Some day i will. I can eat with them but not with all foods

What kinda question is that?

If everything is cooked the way it can be best eaten with rice, what else do you expect us to eat with?

Or did you hear someplace that we even ate steaks, pizza, burgers, spaghetti with chopsticks?
