Well I usually dont try to stand out when i go to another country. Given that majority of Japanese do not wear traditional clothing i would say it would depend of the circumstances. If i was going to a matsuri then maybe yes but otherwise i would just wear what im comfortable with. Im more concerned about proper etiquette in Japan than i am clothing.

I'd wear what I'm comfortable with, thought I wouldn't want to draw attention to myself or anything. So I'd rather just wear something normal and comfortable, especially if travelling.

Dressing as a maid shouldn't draw as much attention in Japan as the UK.

Just wear it the right way and pray that no one looks at you funny :p

I would wear what I feel comfortable in, and given my height and size, I doubt I could find any Japanese female clothing that'd fit me anyway, so yeah, clothes from home is my only option. Even if I was my perfect size, I still have the height thing.

That pretty much goes with the second option...wear what you feel comfortable in.

Well good, for a minute there we were afraid you'd escaped from a looney house. You would not last long if you had . . .
