Not just Korea; It seems Asia, in general, is at a phase where plastic surgery isn't so uncommon in the entertainment industries--especially for females. But sometimes within that fact, people assume every attractive person they see has had plastic surgery... which is not only untrue but can be insulting, as it has underlying implications (intentional or not) that there can't be naturally beautiful Asian people.

Regardless, that's a lame reason to not-have an interest in any country and culture.

That's a very good point Jay. However, take note that most celebrities and people all over the world are into plastic survey these days not just Asia. I read an article just the other day about how people in Lebanon can get a loan for plastic surgery! When it comes down to it though I don't see the problem, yeah sure some people take it out of control but tweaking yourself here and there to raise your self esteem what's the issue? It doesn't necessarily mean their beauty is fake it's just expensive. Lol

I don't know what the average Japanese person thinks about Koreans, but pretty much every one of my Japanese friends dislike Koreans and or Chinese.

In all seriousness though. Perhaps the reason that nobody can answer this question is because perhaps the question is flawed.

I would like to hear from the original poster what it means to be Japanese or Korean and to define these people explicitly.

Good point.

It occurred to me that there might be a big difference between the general attitudes of the western-born Asian and the native-born Asian. I wouldn't be surprised if this is more a cultural issue than it is a racial one.

The rabbit hole just gets deeper...

I don't think we can excuse racism as a "cultural issue" in any culture unless we excuse it all cultures.

We may be able to understand the roots of racist mindsets, but regardless of the roots, making negative judgments of individuals based solely on their country of birth is racism.

I think Japanese disliking Koreans for being Koreans is just as deplorable as Whites disliking Blacks for being Blacks.

EDIT: I removed what I wrote and will send it to you PM, don't want to be the reason this thread gets closed.

Nevermind, your PM mailbox is full.
But basically they just made stereotypical classifications about Koreans/Chinese.
Same thing that some whites do to blacks, for example.

Quite possible could be this as well.

I take it as the Japanese having a sense of pride for their heritage and ethnicity, (with good reason) not necessarily "racism."

But that's just me.
