Handgun Ban: Supreme Court Extends Gun Rights In Chicago Case - WGN
It's amazing that after 28 years the Chicago residents are finally able to purchase handguns. It was a close decision though 5-4. I can understand regulating types of handguns but saying no handguns doesn't coincide with the Second Amendment. It is also one thing to not allow the carry of weapons but residents wanted it for home defense. |

I am pretty sure the reasoning against handguns in Chicago for the longest time was to cut down on an already very high crime rate... but as the complaints to this court was- it only hurt the people trying to defend against crime.
I am interested to see the impact this will have on the city. In the U.S., to buy a gun at a gun store, you need to register your name and such so they can do a safety background check on you... but up until very recently people could go to gun shows (like anime conventions, but for guns!) and purchase them without a background check. However depending on local rules, you may be required to have a permit to carry it outside of your house. |
