Yeh? I don't think it was more complicated than what they do now. I mean, all they did was cut a tiny incision and remove the appendix, easy peasy. Now they do what they call "Key Hole appendectomy", and instead of just tearing the flesh apart they make an incision in the belly button to locate a camera there, and make two other incisions through which the surgical instruments are inserted. My point is, there really isn't much of a need to use a video camera when the surgeons could just see with their bare eyes if instead of doing three tiny holes they made just one. You're right though about the recovery.
