Recommendations on a book, please!

Hello!
I'm not sure where to put this so I've decided to post it in General Discussion.

I was wondering if anybody could recommend a book about religion in Japan to me: preferably fictional, in an academic style and preferably not too long. I would also prefer it to have been published in the last ten years.

I know this might be a bit of a difficult task!
Thank you for your help. :)

A fictional work on Japanese religion?
"A Year in the Life of a Shinto Shrine" is very readable, not too long, and though the detail is on Shinto there are chapters that address it in relation to other religions and cultural practices. But it's not fiction, its based on someone's year of training.
