Well I have to disagree with you evanny-- but said enough already.

what about the Men who use these girls? what are They?

To MissMisa - to finish up our exchange, after reading your post in it's entirety and your responses to MMM I can only conclude that you have a strong moral objection to the practice of prostitution that leads to you some not necessarily correct assumptions and conclusions about the people in the industry. Yes, I am sure some women mad bad decisions and get trapped in that lifestyle, and are abused, etc, but the same could be said about slave labor that makes the shoes you wear. Or the women who do porn, or strip clubs, as others as pointed out.

But like I said, it just comes down to your strong moral objection to specifically prostitution so it's really a moot point as we obviously just have very different morals and I look at things from a more logically standpoint and you a more moral/emotional standpoint.

For dogsbody70 (and others) - The men who use these places are normal men like myself. Yes there are scumbags that use these places, but there are scumbags everywhere and you won't be able to avoid them if you're in ANY kind of service industry.

But for the most part, regular, educated upper income 9-5 salary men are probably the ones who have the disposable income to frequent these places. Nothing at all wrong with us.

I think to get this back on track to the original question of how possible it is for a westerner to find prostitution or other sex-trade related activities and if this would be accepted, and also who are the regular clientèle at these places we should stop with the personal/moral debates of the rights and wrongs and ins and outs of the trade itself.

Some of us think that is is the woman's choice if she wants to be a prostitute, others think that no woman should ever do this.
Like all trades there will be corruption and unpleasant conditions, I guess this trade just attracts more and the consequences can be more life effecting.

I think the OP original question was answered regarding who in Japan visits different types of places, and the various likeliness of a westerner being accepted and the dubious legalities of certain practises.

Japan, just like this forum, is not a hive mind, within there will be people who agree with going to host bars, soap parlours and everything up to street prostitution, some that feel comfortable with some of it happening and not others and people who think to each to their own, and those who object to it.

So from now on lets not go over that anymore aye? Just post if you have more relevant information about how it works in Japan on a technical level (who can go, where you find it, what it includes, what it doesn't, what is legal, etc) and not about what is right/wrong and who is getting exploited or not.

Well, more relevant to this thread, I have been doing my own research on various sites and I've been getting very conflicting data on the difficulty of getting into these places, no matter what you Japanese proficiency is.

Hopefully other gaijins currently living in Japan can share your experiences.

Like I said on page 2, go to Kabuki-cho near Shinjuku station and visit a 案内所 (annai-jyo). There are around half a dozen but most speak English and are free - although you should confirm that first. They'll have the most up-to-date information on foreigner friendly establishments along with the costs involved.

Well that's certainly something I'll look into doing but it would be cool to get a heads up on the info.

I wonder if all the restrictions Japanese people put on the gaijins, forbidding them to frequent, etc., has much to do with the legal repercussions involved if any altercation ensues. If the gaijin creates a stink and the authorities are called, the fact he's a foreigner adds to the paperwork involved and those establishments don't want headaches involving passport holders. Could that be something plausible?

It much simpler than that. Foreigners carry disease. People don't want to be with a girl who has been with a foreigner, so foreigners are not allowed in.

Exactly, from what I gather, a lot of Japanese are very xenophobic and have this stupid belief in their head that foreigners are diseased. VERY different in the US (well, big cities anyway) where people don't give you a second (or even first) look at pretty much any ethnicity walking down the street.

Kinda sucks in all respects (not just in the fuzoku industry) that in 2011 japan still has a general gaijin discrimination issue when we got rid of ours decades ago.

This isn't about "walking down the street," this is about intimacy, perception and safety. There are similar issues in the porn industry in America when it comes to interracial scenes. In other words many porn actresses won't do scenes with black men, as there is a stigma attached to that, and it will be harder to get work afterwards. So in the sex trade industry, there are these hangups on both sides of the Pacific that doesn't necessarily apply to the general population.
