What's rude is you asking someone to give up their .edu account, a very prized commodity, for the sake of creating a profile on a website you don't belong to. The reason why you can't get in is because it's supposed to be exclusive. It's not like you can't talk to them on facebook, skype, msn, twitter, aim, etc.
If your friends cared, they'd use any of these public services. You want a Mixi just to have a Mixi, which is exactly what the company doesn't want. At the very least, if you want in, go to college and get your own .edu.

My understanding of mixi is that is wan't meant to be international, in that it was for people who are in Japan to socialise with other people in Japan.

The edu "loophole" is so that exchange students in Japan for a short time, who might not get a mobile phone can still join in.

Don't try and fight the system, you will only end up not welcome.

I have made tons of friends in Japan through twitter, and friends in Japan I alreayd know added me on facebook. You don't really need mixi.

Also can't yo just ask one of your many friends in Japan that you want to use mixi to contact for them to get a spare edu or say, their mums keitai code? If you are that desperate to be on mixi, just for them, let them help you.

oh and mixi sucks, by the way

it's a pretty lame diary system with weird restrictions and unflexible commenting style
And there is a huge world of mixi etiquette that you'd probably shit all over lol

Im an not rude. When you ask somebody something it is not being rude especially when you ask nicely. I know its inconvenient but they can either say yes or no and thats it. Inferring things like saying "You want a Mixi just to have a Mixi" is not only rude but not true. Calling people you don`t even know a weebo" just because you can hide behind the walls of the internet is rude. You should really think about what you say because the things you say do affect people even if you can`t see them. People who say rude things don`t belong on the internet but they all go on it anyway. If they can go on stuff they don`t belong in why can`t i? honestly, i don`t think there is anything wrong with wanting to find my long lost friends on mixi. I think because you probably live in japan and have a mixi and see alot of people on there bothering people to help them with their japanese and what not you hold a grudge against all foreigners trying to get a mixi for honest reasons. Which is wrong. But i don`t blame you because honestly most of the time the people trying to get a mixi are indeed doing that. However i simply wanted to speak to my old friends who i can`t find anywhere elese (although i still have a few more places to look) Honestly i wouldnt bother anyone on mixi because i already learned japanese and im learning korean now....

Anyway, sorry for the long speech. I was kind of mean to you but i guess your experiences on mixi shaped your ideas so i won`t hold it against you anymore.
