Will somebody do me a BIG GIGANTIC favor....

As you probably know mixi only allows you to register if you have a japanese cell phone. (i suspect because they don`t want people to create numerous accounts) the only loophole is by having a .edu account which i guess because you usually can only get one .edu account from your school. There is a website called australia.edu to which i have registered like 10 but i never get accepted!

So this is where the BIG GIGANTIC favor comes in....
If you have a .edu email and you havent already, or arent planning to use it for mixi can you go to this url: https://mixi.jp/register.pl?from=login0
put in your .edu email and press the orange button. When you get the email can you send me the conformation link in a private message on here? When i go to my settings on mixi i will change it from your email to mines so i can message my friends in japan! Thank you sooo much

You don't need a mixi account. Asking someone to use their .edu email for you is irresponsible. Mixi is an exclusive website that doesn't need to be overran by weeaboos who have no business being there.

There is a much easier way around getting a mixi account but it's no fun to find out without the challenge of looking. ;)

Do you even use your mixi? :)
Mine sits pretty idle.

Yeah mixi is just a bore anymore to me, facebook is soooo much better, and there are plenty of Japanese people who have started using it so just get your friends to join FB. If the dipshit management team at mixi wants for some stupid reason to limit their number of potential users then let them lose out to other superior SNS sites.

I've converted the important people to facebook lol so it doesn't get as much attention as it used to. I've had to make several accounts for friends though so they always ask me to comment on their diaries lol.

Yeah, most of my Japanese friends worth talking to regularly also have Facebook. Facebook is actually indirectly trying to merge Mixi and Facebook by linking your Mixi statuses to Facebook. This started about 2 months ago. This move is to try and break Facebook into the Japanese market.

How about Facebook, Twitter, AIM or MSN? :3

If you have friends in Japan they can super easily help you out with getting a Mixi account ;)

just ask, you don't need to ask strangers

What's rude is you asking someone to give up their .edu account, a very prized commodity, for the sake of creating a profile on a website you don't belong to. The reason why you can't get in is because it's supposed to be exclusive. It's not like you can't talk to them on facebook, skype, msn, twitter, aim, etc.
If your friends cared, they'd use any of these public services. You want a Mixi just to have a Mixi, which is exactly what the company doesn't want. At the very least, if you want in, go to college and get your own .edu.

My understanding of mixi is that is wan't meant to be international, in that it was for people who are in Japan to socialise with other people in Japan.

The edu "loophole" is so that exchange students in Japan for a short time, who might not get a mobile phone can still join in.

Don't try and fight the system, you will only end up not welcome.

I have made tons of friends in Japan through twitter, and friends in Japan I alreayd know added me on facebook. You don't really need mixi.

Also can't yo just ask one of your many friends in Japan that you want to use mixi to contact for them to get a spare edu or say, their mums keitai code? If you are that desperate to be on mixi, just for them, let them help you.

RealJames 01-25-2011 06:19 PM

oh and mixi sucks, by the way

it's a pretty lame diary system with weird restrictions and unflexible commenting style
And there is a huge world of mixi etiquette that you'd probably shit all over lol

Im an not rude. When you ask somebody something it is not being rude especially when you ask nicely. I know its inconvenient but they can either say yes or no and thats it. Inferring things like saying "You want a Mixi just to have a Mixi" is not only rude but not true. Calling people you don`t even know a weebo" just because you can hide behind the walls of the internet is rude. You should really think about what you say because the things you say do affect people even if you can`t see them. People who say rude things don`t belong on the internet but they all go on it anyway. If they can go on stuff they don`t belong in why can`t i? honestly, i don`t think there is anything wrong with wanting to find my long lost friends on mixi. I think because you probably live in japan and have a mixi and see alot of people on there bothering people to help them with their japanese and what not you hold a grudge against all foreigners trying to get a mixi for honest reasons. Which is wrong. But i don`t blame you because honestly most of the time the people trying to get a mixi are indeed doing that. However i simply wanted to speak to my old friends who i can`t find anywhere elese (although i still have a few more places to look) Honestly i wouldnt bother anyone on mixi because i already learned japanese and im learning korean now....

Anyway, sorry for the long speech. I was kind of mean to you but i guess your experiences on mixi shaped your ideas so i won`t hold it against you anymore.
