1) That isn't necessarily true at all. It is used in neutral and complimentary manners as well.

2) British and Americans are on equal terms. We don't have a recent and first hand memory of oppressing each other. This is not true for blacks and it is not true for Japanese in the US. Therefore it is a derogatory term.

The use of this word in these forums is against the rules, but for educational purposes I will allow this to stand for a few more minutes.
