What are your thoughts? Will they win, and what is your reaction with this and the aftermath of 311?

All three of my favorite cities missed the last announcement. I really didn't want it in Chicago because it would be a nightmare for a local, so I was really pushing for Madrid or Tokyo. They went with Rio, oh well....

I'd like to see it in Tokyo, but it may be too much for the country to tackle economically. Granted, it's 9 years away and many things can happen in those years.

If I'm correct, the present government is looking into raising the consumption tax to 10% from 5% by 2015. I don't know how much that's going to affect each individual there, but my guess it's not a good thing for them. I don't know what the income tax system is like in Japan and I don't know if they can implement a special tax to help pay for the Olympics.

My impression is that the Japanese would be proud to host the games, but not happy to have to pay for them....

I support it. It may cost alot beforehand but it will defently help in the long one. I wanted Japan or Chicago (being from there) to get the last bid but sadly it didn't happen.

I'm glad it didn't.... It would have been a nightmare for me, living near the lake....

I was supportive towards 2016. I'd like tokyo to have another go at it, but I am not sure if I am supportive toward such decision right after the disaster, but then its either decide now or they will have to bid for 2024... I am kinda between the fence

The reason I felt this way is because, I love Japan enough to want it to have another performance on the world stage, but then I am worry about the financial implication that is associated with bidding for it, then winning it is another thing, imagine how much money need to be on the table to build all the facilities

Personally don't care.

Setting up in Tokyo for the Olympics would not be difficult, in fact, an area has already been set aside in Ariake (near Odaiba) for the facilities. Many of the facilities which were used in the prior Tokyo Olympic games are still suitable.

Tokyo is safe, has plenty of hotel rooms, and transportation is efficient and convenient. The infrastructure also exists to cover and transmit the games, something which Brazil is struggling now to get set up.

Personally, I am a little tired of the commercialization of the Olympics. I liked it better in the past when only amateur athletes were permitted to compete, and no company logos were allowed. This made the event oriented toward pure competition, whereas now the priority is hard cold cash.

I think that Japan has other more important things to worry about and clean up at this point... And that money shouldn`t be wasted on trying to bring the Olympics here.

I agree, much of Tokyo is pretty much setup for it already....

Is brasil really struggling to setup for 2016???
