ScienceDaily: Astronomers Find First Habitable Earth-like Planet

Already, they've found another planet that most probably habitable.

To think, in what...48 years since the first person landed on the moon, we've already explored out solar system, and moved on to others and maybe already found another planet likes our own.

With our technology, in another 50 years, we might have half on the population on another planet.

EDIT: We REALLY need to spend more money on Space Technology.

I wanna stay here.....i don't think we should go to another planet and pollute all that perfectly good air.....

50 years? HAH! no way, make that atleast 200. In 50 years we will only just about be making the moon a holiday resort. And it would take 50 years just to fly there. xD

If you ask anyone old enough they will tell you after the moon landing, that by the year 2000 they thought they would have jet cars and super techy stuff. That didn't happen, just like this wont happen any time soon. Not within our natural life time anyway.

Yes, that's true Yaksoduk-whatever. But it's also true that we have invented more in the last century then in all the previous centuries together, based on this new inventions will come and aid us in our search for aliens and will make our space journeys much easier. As for living on the moon is actually quite impossible, currently most parts of the moon are being owned by people who bought those parts and will probably not be sold again to NASA or whatever so they can do more research there and be able to build a moon-base.

Knowies: Did you know were living on a 1,000,000 planet that was formed from dust twirling around in the galaxy that has been attracted after a giant shockwave troughout the universe.

Ya' know were running out of resources on this planet, so lets move there and start again ;)

But i think most of humanity woulden't mind having another planet under their control.

Ofcourse, it's just like the snowball effect, you more stuff we learn the faster we learn.

But even that wont get us to a planet like that in 50 years. Unless you highjack a flying sauser. The fact that to build a space ship worthy to get to a planet like that would take decades, to get there in such a huge ship would take decades, gathering the info and tech to do all of the above, will take decades. And to actually get people on the planet with a successful conoly..will again take decades. Since you'd have to scout the planet first.

We should start with the moon first. They could develop livable atmospheres if forests of trees were planted, but it'd take a good while.

Not only will we need planets to colonize. We'll need them to mine and to grow food.

first things a planet should have to make it habitable (includes sattelites like the moon):
- since ~earth that has an atmosphere
- water, since it's the basic product for all life-forms on earth
- solid ground, what should we do without it
- liveable, if there are any virusses we should populate on that planet
- etc.

and our moon doesn't qualify for one of those stuff.
