Japan Self Defence Forces
Here's video from the inside of a JGSDF AH-1S Cobra Attack helicpter on live fire shoot. The weapons operator sits in the front, the pilot is behind. They shoot from the machine-gun and a TOW missile.

the JGSDF (Japanese Ground Self Defense Force) is awesome:p
|
Five part video on the JGSDF, what they are, what they do, and why. It's produce by the Defence Agency (now Monistry of Defence), so it's in Japanese.
|
Video of air combat training session for Japan Air Self Defence Force F-15. Notice how the pilots must breathe hard when the G forces reduce the oxygen flow to the brain.
|
hhmmmm, this thread makes me want to go out and learn to fly a helecopter.... thanx for the vids:D
|
Interesting thread you got here Avary-san, I never knew much about Japan's military and Fighting Units, actually I know nothing about it, but this can give one a pretty good idea of what it's like.
|
Video from the annual Japan Ground Self Defence Forces Firepower Demonstration at the Mount Fuji Training Area and Range. The public is invited to see things go "boom" "bang bang" and "ratata" in the flesh. I wish my own country would do something so kickass but I haven't cause for complaints; I've ridden most fighting vehicules and fired most weapons in our own arsenal. Perks of being employed by the Army.
The JGSDF showcases its tanks (Type 90 and older Type 74), armored cars, jeeps, motorcycles, mortars, artillery, helicopters (OH-1 Ninja, Chinook, UH-1, AH-1 Cobra), recoiless rifles, and even the Viper minefield breaching missile. Good stuff ^_^ |
Western Army Infantry Regiment
Documentary on the Western Army Infantry Regiment, which is the JGSDF unit acting in the shock troop commando role, much like the US Rangers, the Canadian CSOR, the French Troupes de Marine.
|
The second part of the WAIR documentary video.
|
RANGER the JGSDF Special Forces. This is a tv report focusing on a 34 year old soldier going to RANGER School. Average age for RANGERS is 26, so it's hard on him. But despite the hardships, he's well motivated by his family and pulls trough the hard training.

are the japanese never allowed to have a proper army ever or do they choose not to?

What fool would invade Japan?, they have Gundams for crying out loud, and don't say its not true, they do have them, I'm sure of it, and Major Kusanagi and section 9, and the most terrifying weapon of all..............KAWAII LITTLE GIRLS WITH GUNS:eek:
|
I always say if we went to war with Japan that we'd lose because they'll whip out the Gundams.
You know its true. :vsign: Edit: I didn't even realise the person above me said the same thing. Heh. |

From TV news : JASDF F-15Js intercept a PLAN (China) Coast Guard Y-8 maritime patrol plane that strayed into Japanese airspace, telling them to GTFO.
|
News report on the JASDF's most advanced fighter, the F-15J. Note that they specifically point out North Korea and China as threats to Japanese interests, hence the need for advanced fighter aircrafts.

Looks like a video game. LOL

Weapons of the JSDF : M110 SP 203mm howitzer
The heavy artillery of the JGSDF is the American M110 203mm (8 inch) howitzer, produced locally under licence. Video of JGSDF M110 shooting live ammunition. First the ammunition carrier brings in the HE (High explosive) shells, the gunners the set the fuse and load a shell, followed by the propellant charge (the white bag), and fire. Rinse and repeat.
The M110 Self-propelled 8 inch howitzer Information: Designation: M110 Contractor: Pacific Car & Foundry / FMC Corporation / BMY - USA Country of Origin: United States Service Year: 1960 Type: 203mm Self-Propelled Gun Crew: 5 + 8 Performance: Powerplant: 1 x Detroit Diesel Model 8V-71T turbocharged 2-stroke liquid-cooled 8-cylinder diesel engine generating 405bhp @ 2,300rpm. Max Speed: 34.8 mph (56 km/h) Range: 450.5 miles (725 km) Range of projectile : 17 kilometers Dimensions: Length: 24.5 ft (7.467 m) Width: 10.3 ft (3.149 m) Height: 9.6 ft (2.93 m) Weight: 24.3 tons (24,312 kg) Support Systems: NBC System: No Night Vision: Yes - Driver Only Production Notes: Developed in the 1950's, the M110 is a large caliber 203mm self-propelled howitzer. Developed about the same time as the M107 Self-Propelled Gun, they each share the same chassis and mounts. The crew is completely exposed to the elements and enemy fire and the system serves up no NBC protection whatsoever. A spade is lowered in the rear of the hull to provide more stabilization when the weapon is fired. Needless to say, the M110 is still serving in some limited respects in a number of export countries. Modifications to the system have increased it's lifespan somewhat, though the machine remains outdated when compared to the newer breed of SPGs and MLRSs (Multiple Launch Rocket System). The M110 gun system is served by the M548 Ammunition Carrier with also carried the charges and fuses for each projectile. Japan builds the M110 locally under license. Most M110's have been upgraded worldwide to the M110A2 variant listed below. The US and UK versions of the M110 have been phased out by the MLRS. |
One of the figther that the JSDF should consider is the f-22 raptor for their upgrade!it is averyn nice aircraft
|
Japan also has Yaoi, Otakus, cosplayers, fangirls, and weeaboos as weapons!! (Yes, I'm sure the weeaboos will move to defend Japan, sad isn't it?)
