Princess Aiko turns 8 years old

Princess Aiko, the only child of Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako, became 8 years old Tuesday. The princess, one of the four grandchildren of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, is now in the second year at Gakushuin Primary School and has been tasked with taking care of the class goldfish, according to Imperial Household Agency officials.

She was chosen as a relay runner at the school’s athletic meet in October and performed in a play in late November, where she was given the role of a witch who realizes children’s wishes, they said. At her home the young princess reviews the Chinese characters she learned at school and receives lessons on piano and violin, which she took up before entering primary school.
