6.3 earthquake jolts Sea of Japan - UPI.com
TOKYO, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck Japan's Sea of Japan coast but no tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of injuries, officials said. The Sunday morning quake was felt in wide areas of central and eastern Japan, Kyodo News reported. Residents were warned of possible strong aftershocks for the next week or so. The same area was shaken by a string of quakes of similar magnitude in December 1990, Kyodo News said. The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was 70 miles east of Ishigaki-jima on Japan's Ryukyu Islands. |
