The alternatives would have been far worse. The bombs had a far reaching effect beyond their intended targets. The whole course of history in the Far East was radically shifted.

To be honest, the Japanese began the war with their insane incursion into China. Then you allowed the military to take control of the government. Then you sat by and allowed them to attack one of the largest most powerful nations at that time.

Admiral Yamamoto warned the Japanese and the Imperial house before the war that any attack on America was suicidal folly and yet out of duty to his nation he fought to the bitter end of his life to prevent the destruction his people brought on themselves.

Be fortunate that the bombs were dropped insted of the Russians doing to Tokyo what they did to Berlin.
