Climbing Fuji off-season (Last week of May)

hello,

i'm looking for advice on what kind of preparations i will need to climb fuji somewhere in end may.. it's off season so i know we won't have all the normal facilities and bus services during the climbing season, but we weren't able to schedule a trip during august so yeah, haha.

would climbing from the 5th station to the summit at night be a wise thing to do at that time of the year? looking for input from people who have experience with fujisan :)

thanks in advance!

unless you are an experienced climber, its not a good idea... it's off season for good reason - fuji gets pretty dangerous

some of my friends did it last year in december ( i think ). started late in the afternoon and saw the sun come up the next morning on top of mt. fuji. a japanese friend of us arranged it all for them, i'll ask how they did it.

i'm probably gonna be there at the end of may too, so keep me updated! :P

Go buy some serious winter clothes for this trip. You will need to wrap up very warm and take a good supply of food and drink along with a good torch.
Sturdy footware is a must and a hardy attitude will do you good as the climb is heavy going.

I am looking to do the Fuji climb aswell so email me or post me some contact details and mabey we could hook up for a good climb together.
Ps. I was looking to do this about the second week in june, but I would be happy to accompany you when you choose to go!

Marc.

Unless your friends are VERY experienced climbers, I would be surprised if that were true.... it was covered in snow all through December!

It's not so bad - plenty of old people and kids were at the top when I went back in August

for those interested in the climb somewhere end may, do you plan to climb at night to time it for the sunrise? :D
