Train merchandise in Tokyo.

Hi all,

Heading back to Tokyo next month, and I'm looking to get some reccommendations on where to buy train merchandise (model / toy trains, company / line logo keyrings, pens, bags, etc).

I'd especially love to find any JR-branded merchandise, but any private lines which do their own are also welcome.

I know Enoden down in Kamakura have their own little store in the main station which sells some nifty little things. Do JR have anything like this?

I know at least 1 of the larger hobby shops in Osaka's Den Den town had an entire floor of a 5 or 6 floor shop dedicated to model trains, back when I was there years ago. Check there, or Akihabara if you're near Tokyo instead.

Saw a bunch of train gashapon in the last few weeks in Shinjinku. Not current JR models

Some stuff at the Clap Hands ?? Tokyo Hands ?? dept store. Some JR stuff.

I remember Yodobashi Akiba had some good train toys, but I had hopes that JR had seen fit to have their own little JR merchandise shop. Perhaps it was not to be *sniff*.

You can always find a pen or three with small cars to boot at subway Kiosks..
Here's a pen of mine from a Kyoto Subway station. (Ignore the RC watch)

These buses are most probably Kyoto but I could be wrong.

There are a couple of shops in Tokyo station which sell JR souvenirs and paraphernalia. If you are in Tokyo during the first or third weekends of the month, you can check out the flea market at the International Forum (located near Tokyo Station). The flea market sells mainly antiques (furniture, clothes, sword guards, and bits of armor), but they also have many other interesting and unusual items. I've seen things like train conductor's hats, and older JR posters and station signs, you never know what you'll find there.

Another place to look is the "Hobby Off" store, which buys and resells hobby items and collectibles. The store near my home has thousands of model trains of every type and vintage, from single pieces to entire collections containing dozens of complete trains.

As said, you can find many Gacha machines dispensing really good charms and other stuff. There are 2 hotspots in Akihabara I know of that will gladly take your money in exchange for J-Rail stuff.

There are also many hobby and model shops that are way beyond what you are used to in your own country. I know quite a few top class ones that cater for train otaku. You should be advised to avoid these places less you desire to end up poor and pay excess baggage.
