Quarantine Tourists?
What is everyone hearing about traveling to Japan in the middle of this "swine flu" crisis? I've read from Japanese online news sites that tourists from countries that are known to have outbreaks will be quarantined and asked to provide medical clearance to enter the country! Has anyone heard anything different? I'm leaving for Tokyo in ten days and I'm very concerned.

Japan is very protectionist in these situations, and planes arriving from the US are seeing delays at the airports. A remote thermometer will check everyone's temperature before entering customs, so yes, expect delays.
If medical clearance is required then you will know that before you board, but I have never heard of that. |
Yeah I've heard that too on the news that they are using a remote thermometer.

yesterday, or if it was two days ago, authorities boarded a plane that was coming directly from mexico, and a section of the plane had to remain as one of the passengers had symptoms that are similar to those of swine flu. all checks were negative and the remaining passengers were off-loaded an hour after the first passengers. this is however the only case i have heard of that went that far.
not too many comments from the authorities on this one, and most info came from the actual passengers. |
