Passport valdity
 

It has come to my attention that I might be needing a 6 month validity on my passport?

I'm a British citizen and In 2 weeks I will be traveling to Japan for 2 weeks(2nd august to 16th) and my passport is only valid until December.

I heard it needs to be valid for an extra 6 months and I only have 4 months, will this be a problem, so i need to get a new passport quickly or will I be ok?

Hmm, if you're only going to be there for two weeks before your passport expires I don't know why it would be a problem. Might want to verify this with the Japanese Consolate in Britain?

and why don't you just call the ambassady ?

i did the same (but in belgium) as i'm going in september to japan and the validity is only till january. They told me that the passport has to be valid when you enter and when you leave japan. But there is no 6 month validity like in most countries.

I imagine the same rule will apply for you :D

Yeah, this is the time when you're supposed to contact your embassy and not rely on the words of forum users.

"Officer, let me explain once more. Some user on Japanforum.com told me that it was ok. Now can I go? My plane for the UK leaves in 30 minutes!"
