Planning a trip to Tokyo - 10-20-2011, 09:30 PM

My and my friend are planning our first unguided trip to the Tokyo area. She has been there before with a guide and I have never been.

We are big manga and anime fans and would like to know what areas are must go areas for buying goods and which areas should be avoided or are dangerous.

Also are there are suggestions for hotels?

There are no real dangerous parts in Tokyo or Japan. It is very safe, even at 3am, for a woman to walk alone. So there are no worries there....

As far as manga and anime.... Akihabara for the most part.... there are store in other parts of the city, such as Ikebukuro, Odaiba, Shibuya, etc. But it's Akihabara where most of the stuff is....

As for a hotel, it depends vastly on your budget....

Good catch... I always forget about that place! I'll have to visit Nakano Broadway in March....

Ikebukuro has the Animate flagship store and a Mandarake store nearby.

I remember a dungeon-looking Mandarake store in Shibuya as well.

You might also want to check out Jimbocho - the Book district of Tokyo.
