Marriage name change student Visa question -
05-13-2014, 01:06 AM
I am going to Japan on a student visa in September and am bringing my husband and son along on dependent visas -for which I will have to show my marriage license to prove our legal relationship.
My husband and I did not get married until after I was awarded my fellowship, so the fellowship and all of my documents are in my maiden name (which I intend to continue using until I return to the U.S. in 2015). My marriage license, however, states that I will change my name after marriage (though this will not be legally recognized until my passport, license, and SS card have also been changed). I am nervous that this will be a problem when I apply for our visas. Where I live this is not a big deal, but I am not sure about Japan. I could amend my marriage license, and then pay to change my name separately after I return to the States, but would like to know if anyone else has dealt with a similar situation? Any advice? |
