sylphstarwind 10-20-2006 03:15 PM

Some of it's cool, but some of it just seems weird to me... Like that kabuki style or whatever it's called, where they paint their face really brightly, and mess up their hair? I dunno, seems to diminish their beauty rather than help anything... What's the point of it, just the attention, or to be "different" and cast of the burden of caring about having a "nice" appearance?

Anyway, I do think some of their fashions and such are really interesting, and look great. There seems to be a lot of variety, like just walking in Tokyo or some big city, you could see people in random costumes, or kimonos, or just "regular clothes". You've got men in business suits walking next to cosplayers. Unless, the cosplayers just stick to a certain area? I'm not sure, actually. Well, either way, you go to a big city in the US (such as NYC), and you probably wouldn't see any of the odder stuff like in Japan.

kudo 10-20-2006 06:17 PM

theres some historical refference to that style.
also, keep in mind historicly many cultures around the world have gone to extreme measures (by moden standards) in beauty. its only recently that we've come to see simplicity as beauty at its finest.

example? british poofy hairstyles....italian philosphers who wore stiletto boots...french aristrocrats who shaved their head jus so they can have a variety of wigs that they can choose from...and thats only from the 'civilized' nations.

Okimoto_Tatsuki 10-20-2006 06:21 PM

HEY HEY HEY. HAve you forgotten?!! The japanese hate been classified as "Japs". Its kind of racist like the N word. >.>

I dont find it soo offensive but yeh...keep the word to minimum, incase more real japanese people see it.

*cough*

Look at this magazine: http://www.fruits-mg.com/xnew/j/index.html

click on either street, fruits or tune. all diff fasion

Vesperd 10-20-2006 08:17 PM

Yeah using the word Jap is a nono, some Japanese find it quite offensive..

masterclove 10-22-2006 10:57 PM

elegance through simplicity. japanese design is.

yeah, you can thank world war one for that classification. sad how history never leaves good things in the air for long..but the negative lives through the ages...

japanese street clothes, are what you're thinking about. its a lil radical eh? But so cool at times though. i've seen some things i jus wonder about though. lol.

about the avatar, you need at least 25 posts to put up your own avatar. when you get that many posts, jus go to the control panel and where you change avatars. at the bottom there will be a custom avatar uploader.

kinikuchunks 10-24-2006 03:09 PM

I don't know, when I was in tokyo, I couldn't stop laughing my ass off. It seemed to me a bunch of those kids were still stuck in a high school daze. If you need your clothes to define who you are, then you are a loser. Don't get me wrong I am into wearing fashionable clothes, but it isn't who I am. I know some people would say they are an extension of your being, but hey it's just a phase.

I understand were they are coming from in a country were everything is so homogenized you need to stand out for a little uniqueness, but I dislike American kids going ga ga over japanese fashion.

It's just clothes, but then again to each his own.

I love my Honda, I am a gear head!!! JDM all the way baby.

oh yeah I love the Japanese ladies, that's why I married one.

kudo 10-24-2006 06:33 PM

lol, hope you didn get me wrong in my post.
i love the clothes, and thinks its cool they go for what they want. the way i dress here in canada is somewhat unique at times too. but i doubt i'd ever replicate fashion from there to here. not jus cause its very differnt from what i see here...when it coems down to it, i don't care. lol.
clothes should be what yuo feel like wearing at the time. how yuo want to present yourself. it shouldn't be copied form one place to another. if you like it, present it.

and for the rest of ya...japanese h.schoolers see American Fashion as a huge trend and stereotype it and everything surrounding it. (generaly, not always)
it seems as though a lot of N/A guys are within the same thought process with Japan. :p So if you think Japanese high schoolers are a lil gaga for american things and comment negatively...take another look around (at yourself and othrs within the same interest community). ^^

im sure japanese people don't like to be refered to as japs or nips. its derogitory.

thats just my opinion, im sure those terms are used through out this entire forum though so i can't reply to everyones mistakes.
