Why do many japanese want to have white skin?
Hey there...
I noticed that many japanese girls and guys want to have white skin. What's so nice about beeing white? Could somebody explain that to me? Has it to do with the gothloli culture? Arigatou! |
well maybe having white skin is like showing how delicate they are and such and no people where a jacket on a hot day just so they wont get a tan

alot of races do because they think that way they'l be excepted more. i do goth loli sometimes and im 3 1/4s black and i have dark skin so it is posible. you dont need pitch white skin to achieve the style. |
usually white skin looks prettier than black.
but it depends.. black skin people wish to have white skin n white skin people wish to have black skin... this is weired but it is reality ^^" |
My understanding is that girls don't want to get tanned because it'll come back and haunt them when they reach in their 30's or something.
And traditionally, it has been that way for many many years. There is also a historical aspect as well. If you come from the farming household, girls get tanned working outside while daughters of merchants are spending their time on cultural activities such as flowers, tea, and instruments. So even today, white skin is regarded as a beautiful thing to have. For guys on the other hand, it's more complicated. If you are a businessman, certain appearance is expected. If you go to work with nice tan, people would think that you are playing around and the work is not the #1 priority. |

Not me though, I'm fine being rather pallid, if I go out in the sun I just burrrrn >.< |

I dont get tanned..but I dont stay in the sun long enough to get burned :D |

In recent years, it is also about image as well. Because of those kogals, people have negative images about tanned skin. And I'm pretty sure that girls don't want to be viewed as cheap or stupid. |

i dont agree that white skin is prettier than black skin. first of there isnt just white and black skin. there are different races and secondly not all races are the same. that cusing me. im 3/4 black. i dont wish i had white skin. |
x]
this is this one's personal opinion~ but lightskin ish pretty x] and this one hates tanning >.<'' if anyone knows~ this one uses MAC Studio Tech NC25 (foundation) instead of MAC ST NC30 because the NC25 ish alot more pale than the 25 >.>''' NC30 (if anyone tries it out, or knows what it looks like) matches w/ this one's skin perfectly though =.='''' |

not all people have a neg. image of 'tanned skin'. alot of people have a neg. image of like for exp, black people jewish people etc. but then again some black people dont like people that are white, some chinese people may not like people that are another race etc. u get my drift. |
No skin colour looks better than another in my opinion >.< I wouldn't let unchangeable pigments in my skin change the way I dress. Obviously you wear things that compliment your skin colour, much as you do with wearing makeup that suits your eye colour, but no skin colour is blantantly prettier than another!

it just based on my own observation :mtongue: |
i agree with u about the dif races.
as i said..it depends.. i know not all people r like that(including u..) but most of them..i think ^^" |
the problem is when things like stereotypes have been put into peoples headz espesh when theyre yung and impressionable and by parents or idols/people that they look up to.

not all asian people, I know that south east asian people aren't so big on 'pale' skin. but thats because they look really beautiful with tanned skin, e.g: filipino, vietnamese.
But chinese/korean/japanese girls think that pale is good because its prettier, you look more radiant. |
wow
this this a really bad and yet good topic to talk about!
i see people make threads like this one all the time ! but most of them end really badly, and get block or locked ! i'm so happy to see how everyone is respecting each other on this web site ! i don't mean this in bad way,but i always wanted to know how japanesse people feel about blacks in the u.s.a. coming over there to live or just on vacation ?! what do most of them think about us ?! |
Two words: Holly Wood x) That's one but.. yeah >.<'
That's just their idealized female concept of beauty. I don't get it  Why would anyone want a fairer skin tone? I spend HOURS, DAYS and WEEKS lying in the sun to get a goddamn tan ¬¬' |
well, i don't think they have anything against blacks.
I mean most of them are pretty normal, they accept black people. It's not a novelty. >.> It's not the middle ages y'know. But i think some of the older generation who are quite conservative wouldn't want their sons/daughters getting married to one. That's a small minority though, its not the race problem, but they just think that darker skin is not that pretty and image to some people mean everything. But then again, you get those people in america/uk/[insert country here] as well Suki: When chinese people than, they don't go golden. they just darken and on some people it looks beautiful, and on some, e.g: myself it doesn't. [plus i dont tan, however long i stand in the sun] I guess its the ideology that a fair skin tone is more radiant and therefore prettier. This doesn't apply for everyone though |
I am one of the palest people I know, and I really hate it. I guess back in the day paper white symbolized beauty. Tan meant you worked in the feilds and were poor. I think people think pale is pretty, that is why they want to have pale skin......

Loli-goths like pale skin better than tanned, as it goes with the whole culture better, but they are no influence on the masses. |

but i dont think for the loli-goth/classic goth look you have to paste on the make-up. you can just have ur natural skin tone it doesnt matter reli.:vsign: |

I clearly stated that in JAPAN, people have negative images about tanned skin because of kogal. If you don't know what it means, you might want to look it up. |
Regarding white skin as beautiful is a Japanese tradition that exist long before they were forced to open of to the world for trade.
It has roots in Japanese classism. The Japanese royalty had very light skin. And that association of white skin with high class has carried into modern day times. |
