I think people are thinking of Lucy Liu in Kill Bill. She was a yakuza boss who wore a kimono.

nah, it was a Miyavi article thing, which I was told was translated.

The style that girl is wearing is a form of punk kimono style that is quite popular right now.

It is somewhat kimono-hime. I think it is a little untasteful and takes away the beauty of what a kimono is meant to do. I really don't like the openness of the front or the way the collar is done. Kimono looks so much better when worn up to the collar bones with the back of the neck showing in a wide expanse. In traditional Japanese aesthetics, prior to westernization, breasts were not the focal point of beauty in terms of body, instead, it was the back of the neck. If a woman in pre-westernize Japanese culture wanted to be risque, she showed a lot of her neck. . .

Oh! Sorry for rambling, I just don't like it when the collar of a kimono is worn so close to the back of the neck. . .

I don't think it's really what a female Yakuza would dress like. I think she'd probably would wear kimono traditionally mayhaps. I would suggest, if you'd like to do traditional kimono, yet give a sense of Yakuza, go with masculine motifs upon a kimono. Shishi dogs are good motifs, along with waves and eagles. If you can find a womans kimono with ryu-same ( dragons ) that would be good as well! : )

Ditto on the Japanese goth description. The closest thing that "female yakuza" brings to mind are some of the ”ガール” types that my Japanese co-workers seem so fascinated with.

For those who don't know what "ガール” is, it describes those girls with the dark tans, ludicrous makeup, and tight clothing. Many of them wear perfume to cover body odor, as some of them rarely bathe. Baths tend to wash off their fake, painted on suntans.

ガール sometimes hang out together as groups, and some of these groups consider themselves to be gangs.

You mean Ganguro???

I despise that fashion trend to be honest. I seen a few that have been, "cute," and only mildly so, but many of them take it all too far and tan far too much.

Oshiroi ( Geisha make up ) is so much better for the skin. . . XD

I do like some Kimono-hime styles. Some are rather inspired by the Taisho and Meiji styles of Kimono, which aren't so tight and formal, or look so tubular like the modern, formal style of kimono, which is okay, but I much prefer the vintage and Geisha looks, which Kimono-hime does burrow some Geisha styles, too.

She looks quite like the girl in the Red Steel game for the Wii. Same hair and similar style Kimono thing.

Eh, I really don't like that pseudo kimono thing going on.

Despite the style of the first picture, it is a real kimono. ^^

This is so much prettier:

That's not an Obi. : ) It is actually an accessory for Obi. It is called the Obi-Age. It is the bustle cloth that holds the pillow for supporting the obi up. : )

In panel two, you can see where the obi pillow goes. : )

Technically, one can wear two obi, but it is best worn using summer obi, like Hanhaba obi, which means half-width obi. One can use both of them together to create interesting and unique styles. <3

Wow I think this thread is pretty cool! I like how Tsuruko is very informative, & the info you gave on there being a female Kumicho in the early 80's reminds me of the anime "Gokusen", which I'm guessing is based on those events.
But I like this thread & don't think it's weird @ all!!:vsign: But a female Kimono with dragons on it would be awesome:D in black & red colors or golden dragons on a background of light blue & white.
