I am from New Zealand
Lolita Questionnaire. 1. What does Kawaii mean to you? Cute/adorable, innocent 2. How do you feel about icons such as “Hello Kitty”? Cute. I love Hello Kitty, but sometimes it can look very cheap and unclassy. 3. Do you class yourself as a Lolita? If yes, what does being a Lolita mean to you? I do, however I am a subtle lolita. I only wear lolita during conventions (which we don't have a lot of in NZ), but I incorporate elements of the style in my casual wear. Being lolita is not only about the style, but also knowledge of the etiquette. 4. When did you start wearing Lolita and who influenced you? I started wearing lolita this year after being a long time admirer. Learning Japanese and being interested in Japanese fashion influenced me. I really started to admire the style after watching Shimotsuma Monogatari! (Kamikaze Girls). 5. Do you participate in any conventions/events/meet-ups for Lolita’s? No, there are none where I live. But I go to other conventions like Anime/pop culture conventions and see other lolitas there. 6. Where do you go when wearing Lolita, or where would you like to go? Conventions. 7. What are your hobbies? Learning Japanese, photography, fashion/beauty (hair, makeup), reading fashion blogs, watching movies, listening to music, games, etc. Just normal hobbies of a 16 year old. 8. Who are your idols? Japanese actors/singers such as Kamenashi Kazuya, Yamashita Tomohisa, Tsuji Nozomi, Ayase Haruka, Becky, Kyoko Fukada, etc. 9. What are your favourite brands? E.g. Baby the Stars Shine Bright, Angelic Pretty… I've only bought from eBay and BodyLine, but my favourite lolita brand of all time is Angelic Pretty. 10. Do you dress this way for yourself or to receive attention? For myself. Although I do love the attention, but only when it is appropriate. I don't have the guts to go out on the street or a mall in full-blown lolita. 11. Do you ever attract unwanted attention? E.g. from older men… Well I don't blame them for staring when its such an uncommon style and very eye-catching. But I have never been approached by creepers when wearing lolita. 12. Do you feel that people create fantasies involving Lolita’s I.e. fetishise you? Yes. Not necessarily involving me, but lolita in general. 13. Do you dress in Lolita clothing daily? Or is it your own fantasy that you live out only so often? Only so often. As I said, I incorporate elements daily, such as a skirt, bow, shoes, into an outfit. 14. What image do you feel you portray? One of child-like innocence, or one of rebellion? Child-like innocence. 15. When not wearing Lolita what do you wear? Punk style, or whatever is in fashion at the moment such as vintage style, lace. Occasionally I wear Gyaru style. 16. Do you socialise with any other subcultures? E.g. Goths, Gyaru… Yes, I do not socialise with people based on their fashion. |
