The ganguro look is very, very strange. I think that some ganguro gals can be pretty cute, actually, but it's such an extreme look. I wouldn't go in for it myself. It isn't particularly healthy, either. With all that tanning they are putting themselves at massive risk of skin cancer.

No, I think that most of them go to tanning salons and really get it done. I don't think that the fashion would bother me half as much if they didn't cook themselves. Blergh...

from the pictures it looks like they tan really dark as dark as they can and they they put extra dark make up on there face from the pictures so it a combo of the two. i think.

impossible.. only way to get a tan like that is bake your head in an oven :p its makeup for sure :eek:

Ganguro, literally "face-black," is a fashion trend among Japanese girls, an outgrowth of chapatsu hair dyeing. The basic look is bleached-blond hair perms that take half a day to set and cost about $400, and a deep tan, produced by tanning beds or makeup. The intent is to produce the tanned, blond California beach girl look. Accessories include high platform shoes or boots, purikura photo stickers,and cellular phones. They go to tanning salons to maintain a dark-brown tan year-round (or apply a dark-brown foundation).
