Japanese Women's New Image on Display in Shampoo Ads

Shampoo advertising in Japan has almost always featured glamorous foreign blondes praising imports from Procter & Gamble and Unilever.

But ads for Tsubaki Shampoo, the latest hit from Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido, feature famous Japanese women and an unusually direct slogan: "Japanese women are beautiful."

The message has struck a chord at a time when Japanese women are increasingly looking to role models in their own ranks, rather than stars from abroad, for definitions of their self worth.

For decades, beauty standards in Japan were dictated by the West...

I love this! Why should they use models from abroad when they have their own goodlooking (hot) girls? :)

Picture2Perfect 08-28-2007 02:41 PM

Thats a really better plan and sheesh why the hell would they even think of using western girls over japanese?!? they madddd
They are much more well at least as beautiful.

Will.

*sigh*
I really hate terms like Eastern and Western.

Narulolita 08-28-2007 04:05 PM

me too
but these women have beautiful hair :rheart:

LadyNihongo 08-28-2007 04:14 PM

Its funny because alot of women that are not Japanese or Asian envy the beauty of the females in that country.

masaegu 08-28-2007 04:19 PM

Yeah, but the reverse is also true.

You know, almost all the recent shampoo commercials I can think of off the top of my head don`t feature blondes. In fact, I can`t think of a single commercial with a blonde. Even the most "European Image" Mod`s Hair uses a brunette.....
All the others used older women (Showing them having fuller hair) or mothers (washing their hair with their kids).

Tsubaki is just the very latest of the "Japanese image" shampoos. Before it there was that one that used breast milk essence, and then that Asience one...

japanese women is beautiful..
all women are beautiful!!
do you agree when I say that it's is better to have a beautiful insight rather than outsight..
do you know what I mean?

Why do you? I don't get why some people get offended when being called "white" or "black", avoiding those words only make them "stonger" and might slowly become taboo words.

nippon 08-29-2007 01:04 AM

wow so many super hot ladies awesome just aweosme

Yuna7780 08-29-2007 02:06 AM

Dude, this is great that they want to actually support their country's beauty in hair products. I think I'll post about this on another website too...

Not REAL breast milk, of course. It apparently uses the same balance of oils and such that exist in real breast milk.
Milk oils are good for your hair - it isn`t a big leap to assume that *human* milk oils would be better for human hair than some other milk oil.

I was just curious as to what more breast milk would do than regular milk. I got that it was the "essence."

Tolbarizhei 08-30-2007 03:47 AM

that had me bouncing and wanting to sing along, although i really had no idea what they were saying, but in the least case.. that was by far more intriguing than marketing over in the usa

geishaofthedead 08-31-2007 02:17 AM

It kinda reminded me of a pantene comercal when her hair did that wave flip.:D But I truely do envy asian women cause I think they are much prettier.
