Masu sake cups in UK.
Anyone from the UK here know where i can get some Masu sake cups from? The proper wooden ones not the lacquer ones.

Ebay. Someone's selling 4 for £4.00, £5.00 shipping and handling. That was the first one to pop up on Google. I'm sure more browsing will find you cheaper ones.

Thanks for the reply but i don't do evilbay. Anyhow i have found a shop online that sells them, the only doubt i have is that it says "not for heavy use", speaking to a Japanese friend, her dad has been using his for 10 years

Hope you go for the real thing instead of a masu-look-alike. The real masu is made with Japanese cypress (Hinoki) and will last many years. Plus it gives the sake the aroma that you will love. No other trees will do imo.

I will check when it arrives, probably end up having to import one.

feels... almost artificial and like nagoyankee said gives your sake a new kind of... aroma or flavour that compliments very well x] *be sure too sprinkle a little sea salt on the corners of your cup before drinking your sake for a real traditional outtake =D * |
I have a sake set made from bamboo that I actually use for umeshu. Its rather nice and it seems to enhance the mellow tones of the wine.
Or was nice till I did something stupid. I poured soju in one of the cups the other night, and it was awful. I am not sure whether the soju leached something from the bamboo itself or the umeshu residue that had become part of the wood, but the result was undrinkable. I hope that the thorough rinsing of the sup restores it so that my choya is not tainted the next time I use that cup. Anyone no whether soju works well in masu cups. I would think its close enough to sake to be ok, but now I am not sure I want to try it. Kinda the same way I don't want karen sake from a cedar cup. Its the wrong blend of scents and flavors for me. |
