Anyway to ... liven up Japanese rice?
I usually make Japanese curry and rice, or sushi. But today I don't have the ingredients, nor do I have the patience. Yet I feel the urge to have some rice.
But rice on it's own can be rather bland. To you cooking pros out there, anyway to liven up the rice? |
I usually enjoy plain rice, but if I want some more flavour, I just add some soy sauce.

Strange-shaped onigiri?

You can make ochazuke or sprinkle some furikake on your gohan and eat it like that.

have the rice w/ a bit of miso soup (pour the soup over the rice)
if you have no miso try tamago kake gohan~ make sure your rice is super hot and your eggs super pasturised x] crack an egg into a whole that you made in your rice, add a bit of soy sauce and some sesame oil, and stir and eat xD you could add natto w/ scallions too your rice as well~ hmm....... so far that's all that comes too mind xD i'll post more if your still interested and more comes too mind lolz |

I couldn't agree more! Always keep some Nagatanien ochazuke mixes at home. It turns left-over cold rice into a hot meal in a minute. It's excellent for breakfast and after-drinking meal as well. |

Actually that is what I am having for lunch right now..... Nagatanien Ume-boshi Chazuke.:D Just wish I had made more of it. |
Thank you all! I'll going to take some of these ideas now.
You see, some of the ingredients I don't have, because the place I buy the JApanese ingredients and parts, are like a 2 hour journey into the city. |
