Ohagi? Mochi? Help? -

So, which is which? I read a recipe for Ohagi that looked very much like what people here in America call Mochi.
This stuff but with red bean paste. If not, what is Mochi called in Japan? |

We have like... 2 bags of the stuff still sitting around and have gone through 3 since December. Mochi is pounded and crushed mochi rice. You can`t use regular rice - it doesn`t reach the proper consistency and stickiness. Ohagi generally has the bean paste on the *outside* instead of the inside, although in different areas it may refer to those that are filled. In general, what you`re talking about is daifuku. In Japan, the ice cream is referred to as daifuku ice cream. Mochi only talks about the rice part alone. |
