Onigiri Help

Hello. I need some help. I'm looking to find how to make onigiri, like a good website for it. I also heard that you need small grain for it, but can you make it with large grain and whatnot?
You can also e-mail me it, so I don't need to keep checking back here every day. xD Or IM me. I'm on a lot of the time. Thanks much!

YouTube - How to make Onigiri

I'm not sure if you can make onigiri with long-grain rice. If it's sticky enough to be formed into balls in your hands, maybe yes... But do try short grain once as it's readily available in your country. We almost exclusively eat short-grain rice here in Japan.

It makes a world of difference. The rice needs to be very sticky when it's cooked, otherwise you won't be able to form it into hard balls. You may say you can make balls with long or medium grain rice, but the chances are that those balls will probably fall apart while eating them.

Rice Balls

Can someone tell me in their words how they make their rice balls? The last lot I made were so disgusting and the time before that they wouldn't set properly, but it looked like I overcooked the rice.
I just want to know where I'm going wrong... it annoys me when I don't know how to cook stuff! Lol, o and the internet doesn't help me much, so don't tell me to look there =/
Thanks

Useful, lol... maybe you could get your mom to type me a message telling me what to do and how to not make nasty tasting rice balls, lol.

you take some rice and shape it into a ball.. how much harder can it be??

of course you can add other things like furekaki to give it some flavor, but that is totally up to you.

I wish it was that easy!

Echan, thanks for the link, but:

Place the rice and 1 1/4 cups of cold water in a saucepan and soak for 30 minutes. Bring it to a boil over medium heat, lower the heat, lower and simmer until the liquid has been absorbed. This should take about 20 minutes. Let stand, covered, for an additional 15 minutes.
I definitely don't think I'll be doing that to rice I'm going to eat! Lol, do you make rice balls from these instruction, because I followed one very similar before and the rice was just white mush. Lol... perhaps my purpose on this earth is to not attempt rice balls! =P
