Need help with one complicated sentence
How is the following sentence to be understood:
それにしても文章のチェック。どうにか見てもらえない ものかね。 Is this a clear rejection? Further I already double-checked the meanings of these words, but I still have difficulties to get the literal meaning of the second sentence. それにしても but then; (but) still; though. どうにか somehow (or other); in one way or other ものか きっぱりと否定する意を表す(clear negation) |
Why do you think that it is a rejection? There is nothing in it that indicate so. It would help if you tell a little bit more about what you're asking, or maybe the preceeding sentence in Japanese.
Roughly, it says that the sentences are checked, and that somehow or rather, it is something that it will not see or show (huh?)... |
~ものか/もんか is a 反語 expression.
it can be a strong negation if it's sticking on the end of the affirmative phrase and with strong tone. だれがそんな事をするものか. How could anyone do a thing like that? 俺が行くって? 行くものか. He says I'll go? Like hell I will! however, if it's sticking on the negative phrase, it mostly means "I'm troubled about...", "how should I do...". and -monokane is used in a roundabout way, "Can't you...?" もっと早くできないものかね Can't you do it more quickly? so, that may be それにしても文章のチェック。どうにか見てもらえない ものかね。 but then, as for the sentences, can't you have him/her check it somehow? |
Hmm...that's food for thought, and make sense too!
I guess I learnt something new here, Debezo. Thanks. |
It is a pleasure.
