as for lolita etc: dress like that in a very aussie area and they will probably think you're a poof, haha. you wouldn't be seen dead dressed like that in my town. I'd be thinking this person is incredibly lost to be dressed like that around here. you know the sort of towns, the ones where the aussie accent still exists and aussie slang can still be heard more often than the american ones.

unfortunately people do judge by appearances, so how you project yourself visually will have an impact on who wants to give you the time of day. that shouldn't stop you from being what you want to be though, not at all. just don't expect everyone to embrace it :P
