Question Chobits - Portrait of Tenderness translation - 03-25-2008, 05:05 PM

I was listening to chobits' "portrait of tenderness" and was wondering what Chi is saying in English in the beginning of the song. The lyrics go something like this...

Hideki itera
Hideki iterashai
Hideki! Hideki! Hideki!
Okainirasai

I don't know what the letters in bold are (Hideki is the name of a character) and i'd love if someone would translate them.

It looks to me like Chii is still trying to learn Japanese at this point... so the first line is like she's trying to get out the second line but doesn't make it. But I'm not sure I've heard it myself, so that's just my best guess.

"itterassyai" (pronounced the way you have it spelled) is the phrase you say to people when they leave and is usually translated as "have a safe trip" although that's not really litterally what it means^_^;

"okairinasai" is the phrase you say to people when they've just returned home, so is usually translated as "welcome back".

This is super basic Japanese, fyi...
