Learning Japanese question

Well There is no language course in my HS and I REALLY wanna learn this language... I was aat borders a few days ago and I saw all these japanese learning books+discs....should I buy a few or save up for a tutor? One was "japanese for dummies" which made me laugh but it seemed helpfull =/ Any advice?

Ohayo, Konnichiwa, Konbanwa!

Watashi no namae wa Sake dess. Hajimemashite, dozo yoroshiku! Maybe I can give you some usefull advice.^^
I'm learning japanese for several months now, and it's not always easy to do so but you can actually learn it yourself.

I started to learn japanese by watching many anime series so that can be a usefull option for you. Because I learned how to speak japanese by first hearing the sentences in the anime series, then write it down.

To actually write it, is another factor. I'm not really good in writing japanese, but I'm only concentrating myself on *How to communicate with japanese people* > [so only how to pronounce, and speak japanese].

If you'd like I can learn you some usefull words and sentences.

Sayonara!

Learning Japanese from anime is a bad idea. Trust me. if you want to learn Japanese seriously and not just for like one time visit learn to write it (don't learn in roamaji)

Not bad if you learn from game, they have text and are voiced. The descriptive text are formal Japanese, and the dialog text are oral Japanese, so its pretty good way to learn

a game isn't an anime :P

I've been teaching myself on the side during my free time for over a year now. Anime is a good thing to listen to if you've already got a good grasp of the language. If you are just starting out, it's not a good idea. I mean, it won't be very useful...At first. But after, you know, you've studied Nihongo and politeness and all that, you might want a little bit of casualty if you're serious about true fluency.

yup thats right as if you just learn (just)off anime you'll come of as rude most of the time. for example seem to hear them say ore 俺 for I and omae お前 for you, both of which are rude (if not really rude). But its ok for practicing casual patterns as you said.

I tried, learning off anime is NOT for me =/
