How to type in Hiragana/Katakana/Kanji

i got this on my Win XP system:

Do i also need any additional fonts or something? Because when i switch to JP keyboard i still write in English in programs like Microsoft Word, Notepad etc....

(didn't tested yet trying to write Japanese in forums through the browser)....
