how would you say

i want to make you smile?

君を苦笑させたい
"make" is not the verb you want to use anywho. if you want to cause someone to do something you use the causative. If you are in school doing japanese, you'll get there. if not, Causative and Passive Forms - Tae Kim's Japanese grammar guide

I'd say 君を笑わせたい (Kimi wo warawasetai) but this sounds more like "I want to make you laugh" to me.

I asked a Japanese friend just now about this and he said "I want to make you smile" is a bit of an awkward phrase in Japanese.

君の笑顔を見たいの i want to see your smile
i think thats probably the best you can get without it sounding strange or ambiguous.
