Quick Japanese Phrases
 

Ok so everyone is wanting to learn Japanese- and I see threads for that but no threads for just simple phrases for everyday conversation- unless I missed it lol so lets post some phrases on here to help get people started with the language ^_^

goes like this- lets kinda sound out the words so the prononciation will be right. like...because- (bee-cuz)

so lets start with these phrases:

simple answer to all your questions is go buy a book or go to a class! your local college/university will more than likely run a japanese language class for anyone over the age of 16.

Books: Japanese for dummies, Japanese for busy people, Japanese from zero.
Classes: Google

No thread or forum will get you fluent or even anywhere near basic level japanese.. go to a class or get a book and study study study! I do atleast 30mins a day from my books and my audio lessons i got. I've been doing it for a year now and I know so much already its unbelievable. I can hold full japanese conversations with my class teacher (missmisa will back me on this before anyone starts) for example.

Theres no such thing as "oh i joined a forum now i can say "arigato" so im studying japanese"

Also, if you do join a class, study in between lessons! Theres people who go to my course who just turn up (usually late) and expect to learn but now 3 months in they stare blankly at sensei everytime she talks to them.. Its so obvious that they dont give 2mins thought about japanese language apart from during session.

Ok um excuse me?....Never did I say that this thread was to be fluent. I said BASIC PHRASES. did you ever think that maybe people dont have money for that kind of stuff? class and books and be pricy. This isnt that kind of thread- Its just if your intersted in knowing how to say a couple things. And I never said anything bout you- if you wana be concieted and talk about how great you are with the language then whatever- but dont do it here- obviously its not a thread to brag. So get off your high horse and shut up. be a little more considerate. If you dont wana post on what I have here- Then find another thread. No one asked you to post here. Its for those interested.

Anyone would know i often post in the real language help thread cuz im stuck myself. I was purely trying to demonstate the power of a book and a bit of revision.

In England, those books cost what? a tenner? (often cheaper if you get them second hand on ebay.. i got japanese for busy people for 6quid) thats a couple of weeks pocket money (lol) at most. Birthdays? Christmas? Come on. Also foriegn language classes are free at most colleges here for 16-18 years and the unemployed.

Chances are since theres already a million threads like this one, you only remade one cuz you wanna know for yourself so my first post in this thread still applies.

I love how you said HERE and IN ENGLAND what about the people who arent from those countries? This is for people to chat about the language- not you-why dont you just stop posting here?

I don't think im being unreasonable. What KyoKitty92 is trying to do is like asking someone to show her how to make bread but she doesn't have an oven and isnt prepared to provide/pay for the ingredients. It just aint gonna happen. I don't see how "quick" phrases as described can be useful in everyday life unless you go to bed one night and suddenly wake up in Oita (thats a place in Japan, KyoKitty92) but then you wouldnt understand what was being said to you in the first place so how would you reply? I cannot imagine saying こんにちは　as my answer to anything and everything and I struggle to see how a thread can support a conversation over a one word way of thanking somebody..

Sorry to re-quote but its obvious you don't want to google it cuz that implies effort. You can't expect to learn even the very basics of any foreign language by having someone give it to you on a plate. Chances are if you read it only once it wont commit to long term memory and it will be gone.

I only commented on England cuz thats where I live and it would be foolish of me to talk about availablity of books/classes in other countries that i have no idea about. I've only been a member of this forum for a few months and I've noticed a million and one threads like this one. If you want to learn anything (on a begginer level) then a forum isnt the way to do it. Learn kana then start with speaking/lsitening till you can hold your own then you can ask for help cuz some other poor sucker has already made a site that shows you that yes is hai and no is iie.

Why is everyone acting like im trying to know a few phrases and say im fluent? for gods sakes people I watch enough anime to know the basic phrases- it was just a conversation starter. Why is everyone being so rude about it?aybe people just wana know a sentence or two. It doesnt have to be useful in everyday conversations with another japnese person- this is only a thread. I dont undertsnad why your thinking 'im lazy' what the hell does that have to do with anything? I have books on the language already. This is just for people to discuss the language. Why is that such a bad thing??

Because your starting a single tread on language discussion when the whole forum is on this? Im not trying to be rude I just dont see the point of helping people join the "lolololkawaijapanpocky club" whos claim to fame is that they can say hello in japanese. Ive seen people say things like:

"yeah i can speak japanese"
Really? Thats cool, go on then.
"konichee war. batara DAVID desai."
Oh.. and what does that mean?
"oh nothin. just introducing myself"

at this point his band of friends are all simultaneously going "yay yay kawaii!" in the background..

you can see where this is going.. its threads like this that bulk up its members.

I understand what you were trying to do kyokitty, but the problem is, you are trying to create a discussion on a topic that isn't really discussable. It would be like creating a topic on multiplication tables. 2x2=4. There's not much to discuss.

Well, it looks like everyone has thoroughly instilled in KyoKitty92 the value of Googling before asking a question on the interwebs, so I may as well answer her original question. The phrases in order are お願いします、ありがとう、はい、いいえ、日本語を話 すことができますか？、and 英語を話すことができますか？
