That's right. When you start learning kanji and typing them, you will need to know the "correct romaji". But if you know the correct kana, that automatically means that you know the "correct romaji". The earlier you abandon romaji, the faster you will learn Japanese. Romaji is addictive, isn't it? But things addictive are often bad for you.

To type the name of my city, you must type "Toukyou" and change it into kanji. Typing "Tokyo" won't get you anywhere near 「東京」.

As for my username, I've never written it in hiragana. But if I had to, I'd write it なごやんきい. I usually write it in katakana, which is ナゴヤンキー. So before you learn katakana, you can just write it in the alphabet.

Finally, "Thanks a lot, Nagoyankee." is 「なごやんきいさん、どうもありがとう。」. I don't mind Nagoyankeeさん.　　 Remember when I mentioned "みなさんこんにちは"? We put the name/title first most of the time, which is the opposite of what's considered normal in English.

Needs one particle after みどり, which is の. Not that green cats exist...

Funny thing is that it's correct to say くろねこ( a black cat) and しろねこ(a white cat), but with any other colors you have to make them into adjective forms.

Thank you, but isn't の the possessive particle? Why would that go after midori, does that make it into adjective form? It seems we have not covered this in class yet.

I hate to lead you ahead of class, so I'll be brief here. の is the magic　particle. 'Possessive' is only one of the several functions of it.

みどりのねこ = a cat of green = a green cat

You mean that everytime I have been sending an email and opening it with こんにちは”名前”さん I wrote it in the wrong order?

Well, it's not only you....if that's any comfort.

You already know that word orders are quite different between the two languages. And so do many others on JF. Yet when they say "Hello + Name", they somehow don't think of the word order. That unanimity on JF kinda frightens me. The natural order is the opposite if 'naturalness' is important to you. But it's also true that everyone will understand you if you go "Hello + Name" since it's not a sentence involving many words.

Just think about this. What would you think of my English if I said "John Hello!" or "Guys Hi!"?
