Translation Help
 

The following is part of a bigger document. I have two translations of it but the translations of this section are different. Could someone give me an idea of which is more correct or whether they are both bad? I have my suspicions but would like the opinion of someone more comfortable reading Japanese. Thanks.
First translation:

We inform you that the report of marriage was accepted.

In Kure City, the verification of marriage and adoption is done in person.

Regarding this announcement, we send this notice by mail for those persons unable to attend this notification in person.


Second translation:


This is the confirmatin that the notification of marriage of the above named parties was submitted on October 3rd, 2008.

When the notification of marriage or adoption is submitted, the Family registration office of Kure city requires examining identification of an individual. This confirmation is sent to the parties only when the identification was not available at the time, the parties didn't come to the report, or the notification was turned in by mail.

The second translation is spot on.

The most important part of the document is届出時に、ご本人の確 認を行っております.
It usually means you need to send a copy of your ID to the city office, or go there with your ID.
Maybe the rest part of the document says so.

Thanks. The part about the missing ID or being submitted without being present threw me with the second translation because all required ID was presented and everyone was there. The first sentence also bothers me because the say two different things. Submitting and accepting the notification of marriage is very different.

Really? Still they say they need to see your ID? Then it might be their mistake. I think you should call them.

The first sentence means; “Written report of marriage is accepted.”
The translations you had might not be very good.

Anyway, you and your partner went to the city office with your ID and submitted the report, right? Then, you should make a phone call and tell them what you’ve done.
However, I’m not very sure because I haven’t read the whole document.

It may be that they’ve forgot to make a photocopy of your ID by mistake.

I think who translated the document might have been confused by the presence of "accept" and "notify". Maybe they wanted to translate that they "submitted to you a notification that the document had been confirmed" and wrote it wrong...
Just trying to find an excuse ;)

(Unless it was done with an online translator, in that case those kind errors are common...and I would have checked the whole translation if I were you).

I'm not woried about any issues on the Japan side. I have a copy of my wife's Koseki and the marriage is entered. I am more concerned that US immigration may interpret the second translation as the marriage notification not being accepted or I wasn't pressent. Both of which would stall my petion for my wife to move here. However, they also have the Koseki so everything should be okay. Thanks again.
