small つ

What's it mean when a sentence has one syllable smaller than it usually is? I keep on seeing つ but it's smaller and I don't think people pronounce it the same? What is that?

SHAD0W 04-06-2009 04:18 PM

I'm not sure what you mean.. can you give an example?

also, why don't you use the japanese help thread?

darksyndrem 04-06-2009 04:23 PM

Example:もうかえってこない
and I really don't know lol

SHAD0W 04-06-2009 04:31 PM

That example made 0 sense to me? :S

The "chisai tsu" means you do a little pause before the next syllable (or to make the next one a short one)

Like my name (Ash) is アッシュ because the シュ is a short shound.

darksyndrem 04-06-2009 04:36 PM

Ok, I think that answers my question. By Chisai Tsu you mean the small tsu? That's what I was talking about in my first post

SHAD0W 04-06-2009 04:41 PM

yes as chisai means small in japanese..

it is also the name of the character.

darksyndrem 04-06-2009 04:48 PM

Ah, I see. When a different syllable is like that, does it change? Like does it still mean to pause or make that a short sound?

SHAD0W 04-06-2009 05:12 PM

it depends what its used with. tsu is always a pause, though.

darksyndrem 04-06-2009 05:43 PM

Ok cool, well thank you for your help!

darksyndrem,

You're questions are great, but please try and title the threads something besides "another question".
