Question about signing and braille
This may seem to be an odd question, but does the Japanese language have an equivalent of sign language (for deaf people) or Braille (for blind people) ? I don't know why, but I've been wondering that for a while.

During the nightly news where I lived in Kanagawa, there often was a lady on the side of the screen signing the news as someone else read the news. I think they called it 手話ニュース or something.
Examples of JSL: YouTube - かがやき手話ニュース「原 道子の自分史・第1章」 Warning: there are subtitles, but they're in Japanese, so you'd better be willing to pause or be a proficient reader already to follow what she's signing. |
