The last part is definitely かばったのか but the original typist mistyped the っ.
To be honest, I was surprised at seeing "Grovyle." I had to look it up, and apparently it's a Pokemon. The katakana is apparently supposed to be "Juptile," which is "jungle" + "reptile."

It's speculated that "grovyle" is "grove" + "reptile." I think this is a dumb translation nonetheless. They should have kept it "juptile"—no reason to change it. "Jungtile" might have worked better in English, though.
