Where to start?

I recently bought Genki I: Intergrated Course and would like to know what direction I should focus on.
Should I start out by memorising five Hiragana syllables at a time? What should I be mainly focusing on? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Learn Hiragana completely, then Katakana. Then learn basic grammar (you might do this before learning Katakana if you want) then Kanji with grammar.

There is a big sticky with Japanese language resources at the top of this subforum.

10/week hiragana? I agree, that's definitely easy! Maybe a little too slow though; it would take you more than 8 weeks to learn both Hiragana and Katakana at that rate. You can learn them all outright in a week, if you apply yourself. Promise. My whole beginners class (self included) managed it by themselves without too much hassle, and even if you forget some, then it's just a matter of revision.
