Hi,
could somebody translate me the Kanjis on this textile? I got it as a present and I can't pin it on my wall until I know what it means;)

(I hope the upload worked)

Did you not check the post yourself? It's waaaay too small to read.

the kanji written in red color means like sincerity or honesty.
under that, it's the name of a famous japanese Samurais group "Shinsengumi",they actually existed about 150years ago.
and their belief was the sincerity.
and other kanjis are each person's names of Shinsengumi.

Sorry a little out of topic. I noticed it is your first post in this forum.
I guess a welcome is due :)

arigato gozaimasu for the quick answer. And yes, its my first post. I'm pretty japanophil and I would really like to spend some time here, join some discussions and give some knowlegde back, but I'm very short at time at the moment, so I think it makes no sense to introduce myself pathetically. I will write something when I'm free again. Thanks so far

How in the world can you read that? I can read the 新撰組 and can make out a few other characters like 三 and 武 (I think), but that's about it. It's too small for my old-man eyes.

Nagoyankee 11-25-2009 12:43 AM

Not momoz (obviously), but it's like if you actually have prior knowledge of some of the names, you can "read" them without a microscope. So it's sorta more mental than physical.

I can see almost clearly the names like 近藤勇、土方歳三 and 沖田総司 on there.

KyleGoetz 11-25-2009 01:08 AM

Yeah, the 土方歳三 was the only one I could make out for sure, but I have no knowledge about the 新撰組 whatsoever other than the name itself.

*fishes out his small book on the history of Japan*
