Did I type this correctly, I just basically want to say my name:
こんにちわ。わたし は ed の なまえ

No.
こんにちは。名前(なまえ)はedです。
Or, just "edです”

What alanX said. What you gave us was something like
Today! [like a girl would say it] As for me, Ed's name.

Not bad at all for a beginner, bro.
At least your already on to kana.
Basically, the "wa" that you hear in "Konicheewa" is the particle は。
Not a big mistake at all.
And for the second sentence, it was just a grammar issue.
In english, we say My-name-is-X.
In Japanese, we say
My-の-name-は-X-is。
わたし-の-なまえ-は-X-です。
But native speakers usually just shorten to Xです。

So even if I just my name with just です、that would be accepted by a native speaker or no?

That is how native speakers say it. So, of course.
Xです。
