I'm not trying to discourage use of kanjis, it's just that people could lose a little heart when getting 50 kanjis they don't know in their face all of a sudden, I guess. In that case there could be a thread that doesn't use kanji, or just a few of them. Just a suggestion.
Hmm, See, I'm not so sure it should be split on the type of writing quite like that. That seems to push beginners into the romaji thread, and would split lower intermediates up between the no kanji 'gana thread and the advanced one. At the moment, feedback from 'gana readers determines whether or not the respondent uses Kanji and that seems to work quite well; the learner can ascribe what they're given to some extent. Plus experienced Japanese users will be able to guess what sort of characters the questioner can read. If there's a beginner's thread, it's very obviously going to be romaji, hiragana and simple kanji only, and it's easy to add in gana readings of kanji. At intermediate, then it's more of a mix of gana and kanji; but those learners should be more equipped to go and look up kanji they don't know, and again, at that level the respondents would be aware that they might need to provide furigana. At advanced, well, that's the same thing really, but they can go look it up themselves.

That i think, would match people's questions and levels of japanese learning more effectively.

The only reason the "50 kanji in the face" thing happens at the moment is because people pose surprisingly complicated questions, like a quote from a manga, asking "what does this mean?" without stating their level of Japanese. Then are rather "Lol whut?" when they get a paragraph mostly in Japanese about grammar. Which is no fun for the respondent either; they just wasted their time and it gets frustrating.

I didn`t quote all of what was said, but I agree. Splitting things by writing alone probably isn`t the best path.
I would say have a normal translation thread - hopefully to gather the "What does this mean?" questions, regardless of level as 99.999% of the time it`s a one time question and the person asking could care less about actually learning any Japanese.

Then beginner, intermediate, and advanced threads - all limited to kana/kanji only... Plus a romaji thread. This way it will be easy for those who don`t want to deal with romaji to completely avoid those questions, and those who don`t mind can hopefully help out and steer the romaji users in the right direction - pushing them to learn and use kana at the very least so they can move over to the normal threads.

I am thinking it will require a bit of work to reorganize the Japanese language help section, but would ultimately be worth it for everyone.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

As OP, I would like to clarify my point here.

I never meant to suggest that the Japanese help section be divided into "levels". Not that I'm aganst the idea but it wasn't my point. If the mods feel it appropriate, it will happen.

All I ask is this. If more than a few members feel that my posts in the section are of some value to them, I would like to continue offering help BUT do so without fearing any more spamming from this Koanadian member. What he's been doing is a serious challenge to the Japanese language, which is the single most important part of Japanese culture. He seems to think otherwise, namely anime.

I would have discussed directly with the member if he had his PM's open to public, but it isn't. Foolish of me to expect a spammer to accept PM's. So I'm doing this in a thread where everyone can see it. I want a vow if not a guarantee. Without it, the same thing will happen to whoever becomes the next Sashimister once every month or two.

If you'd like to help, and people need help, that seems like a perfectly good reason to keep on helping. I haven't been here for too long, but you seem to be doing a good job.

If that Koa-whoever is spamming, I guess the moderators will be able to deal with that?

(I'm still not really clear on who it is, mind you. )

Okay, final words on this matter from me.

I am not the demon you, and for some reason want everyone else to believe, me to be. However, I see what results from disagreement and will therefore no longer do so.

I retreat from this battlefield with no ill will, lingering hard feelings, or recurrent oblique references, a sentiment I hope is replicated from the other side of this conflict.

As for the PM issue, I had set it to friends only not because I'm a "spammer", but to eliminate the random PMs I had been getting that contained nothing of substance. Should things change in the future, I may be receiving more PMs and avoid making responses this way on the public forums.

Finally, I would like to express my support to MMM's proposal of creating separate threads for all forms of Japanese writing in order to quickly move forum members' understanding of the language to high proficiency. This system, once put into place and practice, will definitelly serve to make this forum and its valued members an invaluable resource to both the curious and proficient.

Good day.

Fortunately, there is one woman in this world who can control me.

Unfortunately for you, she is not here.

Sashimister
I need your help and I appreciate it very much. You give clear answers not only from native speaker's point of view but also as a good linguist. That is why your answers are like a real dictionary articles for me.
Once my friend ask me to help her with one sentence which was written in romaji. I must to say that it was very hard for me because when you see kanji you could understand what this word is, but when you see only it's reading and you not sure if it had been right copied or not... Of course, I'm not trying to compare me, just learner, with you, native speaker, I only want to say that as I can I understand your point of view.
I'll be happy and very grateful if you'll decide to continue help us. But I don't want you to be uncomfortable with this decision.
Anyhow I'll never forget what you'd did for me, all your help and explanations.
Without it I'll maybe never decide to try to take this exam -日本語能力試験, the fourth level in new variant.
