Ok, thanks, but I'm still a little bit confused.

So it is basically the て　form of an already existing て　form?

疲れている is the continual state ている form of 疲れる, correct?　So that would basically say 'I am tired’. But now you are applying a て form on top of that to create 疲れていて...this is where I am confused, what is the difference between 疲れている　and　疲れていて？

Actually, I think I understand now. Is it because you are liking verbs together?

疲れていて寝坊（ねぼう）した

I forgot that you have to go to て form to link verbs, so basically the above sentence says 'I was being tired and I overslept' ?
