Japanese Characters on Sword -
08-12-2010, 04:27 PM
Hi all,
Today on an antique market I bought a sword, the typical Japanese kind and there are some characters on it. I do not read/write/speak the language, so I took some pictures of these characters and I wonder if some of you can tell me what it reads and means..? The number I can read: 30453 Thanks very much, Jeroen Netherlands |

________ First image: "Seishirou Itagaki" Wow, most likely this fella: 板垣征四郎 - Wikipedia "Year 13 of Showa Era" --- > That's 1938 on your calendar. Second: Same as first Third: "Emperor" |

That's very exciting. Just costed me 65 euro, just a little over 7000 Yen. Thanks for translating.
Do you by any chance know someone who knows more about these swords? That can maybe tell more about the history/background of it? Thanks again, Jeroen |

If you can separate the handle from the blade, it's probably worth about ten US dollars and is not a collector's item at all.
There appears to be a serial number on it, which indicates it's not a collector's item. |
